How to Make a Picture Collage

Kenneth Crawford
It is so nice to go on vacation and take lots of pictures and videos. When we get home we show the video or pictures to friends and family almost immediately. We tell the stories of this scene or where this shot was taken with such excitement and happiness. Then afterwords we put the pictures away and forget about them. Why? Wouldn't it be nice to see your vacation and relive it time and time again? Let me show you how to create a wonderful wall hanging made with your pictures, and you can relive your vacation everyday.

First you are going to have to go shopping and pick up a few things. On your list you will need the following: a poster frame, double-sided scotch tape, and enough fabric to cover the frame with a little extra. When picking out the fabric be creative and tasteful. It is going to serve as the backdrop for your pictures and needs to go well with whatever room you hang it in. My wife like to use the faux leather fabrics which seem to be a little thicker and make a better fit in the frames.

Now that you have your materials lets get started. If you have a digital camera and can print off your pictures that is great. If not, head down to the one-hour photo and get your pictures developed. With pictures in hand, pick out the ones you feel are really good and you would like to show off. Clear off the kitchen table and start laying out the pictures in the way you want to see them in the frame.

Now unpack your poster frame and remove the clear plastic from the plexiglass. Place your fabric on a flat surface and then put the cardboard backing from the poster frame on top of it. Cut the fabric to the size of the cardboard. Now place your fabric on top of the backing with the good side facing up. Grab your pictures and, with double-sided tape, arrange the pictures on the fabric taping the backs of the photographs to the fabric. Now carefully place the Plexiglas over the fabric and pictures. Attach the plastic frame to the backing and Plexiglas and then you are done.

Now you have a beautiful collage of your vacation that you can hang in any room of your house. Not only will you be able to relive memories of your time away, but it will also be a great conversation piece as well. You don't have to regulate this to just vacations either. Weddings, anniversaries, college graduations, or any important life event makes for a great decorative wall hanging. So get those photographs out and start reliving good memories.
