How to Make a Pie Crust with Bisquick No Rolling Pin

I have been married almost 28 years, and I just started making pie crusts. Once you learn to make a pie crust, the culinary world opens up to you. Ok, maybe it's not that dramatic, but you can do lots of things, even making those little meal in a pocket kind of things you pay so much for frozen.
I always try to find the easiest, cheapest, and quickest way to do anything, and this was no exception. I don't even own a rolling pin. I tweaked the Bisquick brand recipe until it was what my family and friends really rave over! Here is how to make pie crusts out of Bisquick or baking mix

Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions:Things You'll Need:

  • Bisquick, or store brand baking mix like I use!
  • water
  • margarine
  • aluminum pie pan, I use a deep one.
  1. Step 1

    In a bowl, place 1 1/4 cup Bisquick or baking mix in a mixing bowl. Add around 1/2 cup of margarine. With a fork, mix, or CUT, the margarine into the baking mix until you have moist clumps.

  2. Step 2

    Add Three tablespoons of boiling water. I boil a cup of water in the microwave. Using a big spoon, mix well, until it forms a ball. If it is very dry, add one more.

  3. Step 3

    In your non-greased aluminum pie pan, place ball of dough. Sprinkle just a tiny bit of baking mix on top to make it easy to work. Spread it out in the pan and up the sides a little, PRETEND YOU ARE PLAYING WITH PLAY-DO. (Or mud pies, if you grew up in the country.) If it is hard to work, add just a light sprinkling of a little more Bisquick.

  4. Step 4

    Pop it into the freezer for around 10 minutes. If you want a top crust, repeat procedure, wrap ball in aluminum foil and place in freezer. Do not mix the two batches together. ...I know that sounds stupid, it is best like this.

  5. Step 5

    Preheat the oven to 400. After dough has chilled well, (MOST IMPORTANT STEP) place the filling in the pie, and then play Play-Dough some more and roll out snakes. Criss cross the snakes on top of the pie, sprinkle with a little bit off sugar and margarine, and bake. It takes around 15 minutes, but check on it for burning. This could definitely be different with your climate and oven.

  6. Step 6

    If you are doing a pie with something that does not require baking, you will need to bake the crust by itself, and this does not take as much time. So, carefully watch it for burning.

  • Be prepared; you will never be able to use purchased pie crusts again.
