How to Make a Pine cone Wreath

Karen Barnes

Fall is here and so are many of the beautiful and natural things that come with it. You can use the things that nature has given you to make your own home decorations for a fraction of the cost and have some fun in the process.

Items that are needed for making a pinecone wreath:

* Pinecones All shapes and sizes will work for this project.
* A template cut in the shape of a wreath. The size will depend on how large a wreath you wish to make.
* Wreath. The size of the wreath will depend on the size you wish to make your own wreath. A wreath approximately 2 inches in depth would work best for this wreath.
* Hot Glue Gun
* Glue Sticks It will take several glue sticks to make this project.
* Newspaper
* A scissors or exacto knife
* Flowers or other decorations in Fall or Winter Colors
* A door hanger. You will need a door hanger to hold the wreath if you wish to hang your wreath on a door.

Getting Started

1. Cut out a round template by tracing around the outer and inner edges of the wreath.

2. Lay the Pinecones around the template to find the best layout of the Pinecones for the wreath. This will save you time when gluing them onto the wreath.

3. Now you will need to spread out your newspaper on a flat surface and lay your wreath on it. Heat your glue gun.

4. Start in the middle of the wreath. Place hot glue on the bottom of the pinecone and stand straight up. Place the Pinecones as close together as you can without breaking. Continue this process until you have covered the front of the surface of the wreath. You will not want to cover the back side of the wreath as it will cause it to not lay flat when hung.

5. Now you can add your other decorations to the wreath. Such decorations that are used with a pinecone wreath are berry stems, pine branches, and fall leaf stems. These can be used in the outside edge of the wreath for depth and to cover the areas that may have gaps in the wreath. You can test how these extra decorations look on the wreath by pushing the stem area into the wreath before hot gluing them in place.

6. Once you have you decorations glued onto your wreath, you may now add a bow to the wreath if you wish. You can make your own bows or purchase a premade bow. You can glue the bow directly onto the wreath or you can purchase flower wire to wire it onto the wreath.

The steps provided on how to make a pinecone wreath is not concrete, but is a guideline to help you to get started with your own fall wreath. The only limit to this project is your imagination.

    I used to love to do stuff like this, but haven't done much of it in recent years. Back in my poorer days, I always made homemade Christmas gifts like this. I might need to do that this year too, just for fun! Thanks for the article on it!
