How to Plan a Disney Pluto Dog Theme Birthday Party

Lyn McCallister
Mickey Mouse is a very popular theme for birthday parties among young children. However, what if your child asks for a Pluto themed party without Mickey? I had this very challenge when my preschool aged son requested this theme for an upcoming birthday. Since Pluto specific party materials are difficult to find, I found myself getting creative to pull this theme together.

Disney Pluto Dog Themed Birthday Party Invitations

Get the party started right by sending out party invitations featuring Pluto. Since commercial invitations are difficult to find without Mickey, you have 2 other really fun options.

Option 1: Create your own invitations using stickers, die cuts, scrapbook paper, and your child's help. See the photo accompanying this article for an example. Your child can help assemble these invitations for a great home project. If you do not have a die cut machine, search for 'Pluto diecuts' on either Ebay to find sellers who can make these for you.

Option 2: Create a digital invitation to either print out or email. Search Google to find free clipart featuring Pluto. Type in your party details and you're ready to go. Another fun option with digital invites is that you can add a picture of your child alongside Pluto.

Disney Pluto Dog Themed Party Goodie Bags

First, decide on your goodie bag budget. If you are willing to spend about $10 per child, then make a Pluto dog plush balloon bouquets. You'll need access to the Disney Store, either online or a local store. Purchase each party attendee a small Pluto plush toy. You can often purchase these at a cost of 2 for $10. Order 1 green Mylar balloon from your local party store for each child to tie to the Pluto plush toy. Choose green to match Pluto's collar. These Pluto plush balloon bouquets also make great centerpieces for the birthday party table.

If you have a budget of $5 or less per child, consider purchasing handmade Pluto crayons from Etsy. I purchased Pluto crayons from LiveLoveCraft on Etsy for about $1.25 each. Print some free Pluto printable coloring pages from the internet and staple together into a homemade coloring book. Make one for each child.

Disney Pluto Dog Themed Birthday Cake

If you want to make a cake, you can find a Pluto shaped cake pan on Ebay for about $20. Buy your favorite cake mix and have your child help bake the cake the night before the party. Frost and add sprinkles for a quick and easy Pluto cake. Don't forget the candles!

If you prefer to go to your local bakery, take in a picture of Pluto. Your baker should be able to create a custom cake featuring the lovable dog and perhaps some paw prints or a dog house.

Disney Pluto Dog Themed Party Games

1. Create your own pin-the-tail on the Pluto game. Print or draw a picture of Pluto on heavy cardstock. Cut out his silhouette but not the tail. Cut the tail from a separate piece of cardstock. Add tape to the tail. Blindfold each participant, spin them around, and hand them the tail with tape. The child who can pin the tail closest to the correct place on Pluto wins a prize! One great prize is a Pluto Pez dispenser for about $1.59 each.

2. Bake bone-shape sugar cookies the day before the party. Have guests decorate their own cookie as a fun craft activity at the party. Be sure to have different frosting colors and sprinkles available.
