How to Plan an "Everybody" Birthday Party

A Fun Event for Club Members

Annette Robbins

The senior fellowship ministry of our church recently celebrated every member's birthday by planning an "everybody" birthday party. The birthday gift purchases were to range between $10 and $20 in order to avoid financial stress to one's pocketbook. When the day came for the "everybody" birthday celebration, each gift was numbered as it was placed on the table and each participant was given a number to correspond with a numbered gift on the table. The gifts were wrapped and placed in gaily decorated gift boxes or gift bags. To make the event memorable, plan a birthday party program complete with appropriate festive, birthday themed decorations. A game committee can be formed to plan fun games centering on the birthday theme. To pass the time before the event starts, have wordsearch puzzles and pencils placed on the tables for the guests to complete while waiting the start of the "everybody" birthday party celebration. Prizes can be offered for the first three people who successfully complete the wordsearch puzzle. Depending upon the group, you can have a focused theme for your birthday party. Our birthday party theme centered on gratitude to God for our birthday and all the days we have lived because of His Goodness.

By planning an "everybody" birthday celebration, you commemorate everyone's birthday at once and you do not have to plan a monthly birthday party which sometimes becomes boring, and lackluster. It does not call for extravagance and the amount to be spent can be predetermined so that everyone can stay within budget for the gift purchase. For social clubs, it can be an entertaining activity which everyone can enjoy. Gift cards are an excellent gift to give to the senior age group or for those "who have everything". Gift cards are never the wrong color or size! Most people have no problem spending gift cards.

To round out the "everybody" birthday party, trivia questions can be asked with prizes awarded for correct answers; interesting facts can be shared about the origin of birthday parties and traditions. Discussing the history of the birthday song as well as unusual birthday facts and figures add to the fun. The highlight of the occasion is distributing the birthday gifts. By numbering the gifts and giving each participant a number, each one hands in his/her number and receives the corresponding numbered gift item. There is no need to put "to and from" on the birthday gift tag because the gift will be randomly given to the recipient. No one knows what gift they will receive and it isn't necessary to know who provided the particular gift. That's all part of the fun of the gift giving. It's the luck of the draw.

For a time of fun and enjoyment, consider planning an "everybody" birthday party for one of your special club events. This is such a good idea. Just do it once and get it over with! Many of us are tired of people who need one day that is only them...with the month before being filled with the discussion of all they will do on that one day....and the month after being filled with the discussion of all they DID THAT ONE DAY *.*

I have a birthday approaching and honestly, they get harder to celebrate with every passing year. This "everybody" approach sounds great! Then, you're not facing it alone! LOL cheers :)
