To get started, you will need to pick one of the windiest days of the week. Since you will only usually know the weather forecast of the next five days your kite flying picnic will have to be planned out in a short period of time. What is nice about this type of picnic is that you can have most of the items prepared in advance and ready to go. The first thing you will obviously need are a few kites. You should have no problem finding kites at your local hobby store during the spring months. Kites will usually cost you about $10 and sometimes less. I would not recommend that you pay any more than that for a kite.
Be sure that you purchase a separate kite for each of your children. I have found it to be a good idea to let the children pick out which kite they want. This helps to minimize the number of fights that occur. Once you have your kites you are halfway done. The next thing that you will need is a cooler and a picnic basket. Obviously you can not pack the food for your picnic until you get closer to the date you plan on going out. Your picnic food will only consist of a few sandwiches and simple snacks. I would recommend just packing something simple the day of the trip and be sure to have plenty of drinks for everyone. There are however, several things that you can take the time to pack in advance. They include napkins, straws, pack of wipes, antibacterial cream, band aids, plastic forks, and a picnic blanket. If you don't like to sit on the ground to eat you can always take along a table cloth and place it on a picnic table in the park that you are going to.
Keep your picnic bag and a cooler in a place where you can easily get to it. This way when you are ready to go you can find everything with ease. Remember that this is a spur of the moment picnic, so don't be too worried about every little thing being planned out and structured. Just go with the flow of the day and have fun.
