Planning the perfect Old Hollywood New Year's Eve party takes a bit of effort and time to get everything just right. Along with having a food menu that follows this scheme, (think lots of sweet pastries, savory and creamy appetizers, inventive drinks and if all else fails- food coloring) you need to bring in all of the other elements for a black and white movie theme. After all, the real stars and starlets of all time looked just as good without being colorized.

The Attire
Keeping with the black and white movie theme for the New Year's Eve event will not limit those attending. Options for women include the classic "little black dress", tailored white suits with glamorous hats, black ball gowns or ethereal white goddess gowns. Men, of course, need to wear black tuxedos with a white rose pinned on their jacket or black tailored suits that mimic Old Hollywood's leading men. For those that are daring, white suits can look just as dashing. They also have the option of a top hat or old-time gangster hat, depending on their idea of what classic films really are.

The Decor
Have a red carpet leading up to the event center when planning the perfect Old Hollywood New Year's Eve Party. When guests enter through the doors, they are greeted with white sheet covered walls and floors, tables covered with black and white table cloths and crystal vases filled with white and black roses. Make them feel like they literally just stepped into a black and white film. Keep other accessories simple, such as crystal wine and beverage glasses and place settings. Cover every surface with these two colors, including a draping for the bar and stage. Set up a large white, projector style movie screen in front of the stage.

The Entertainment
During dinner, play the original black and white 1938 version of "Holiday" starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. It is the perfect addition to an Old Hollywood New Year's Eve party because it is all about realizing love on this magical night. After it is over, have the screen rise to reveal an old-fashioned jazz band to set the mood for romance for the rest of the night.

The finishing touches are simple. At midnight, have coordinating balloons or confetti drop on all the kissing couples. It is sure to be a night that everyone will remember. Then, you better start planning now for your next celebration as it will be hard to top these black and white movie theme ideas for a New Year's Eve party.
