How to Plan a Quentin Tarantino Movie Night

Entertain Your Friends and Frighten Your Neighbors!

If your group of friends are self-admitted movie freaks, then chances are more than a few of them are Quentin Tarantino fans. With a new film coming out in April, The Grindhouse, it's always fun to look back on the director's previous work. What better way to do that than by hosting an all-out, completely crazy Quentin Tarantino movie night. Entertaining with a theme is a great way to create a memorable event. Here are a few suggestions to get your party started.

1. You've got to have the right music.

Tarantino films are made all the more enjoyable by his use of music. Soundtracks from Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill are musts. This will not only insure that your music is completely Tarantino-ized for your party, but it also promises an eclectic mix of music. With a bit of Tarantino in your music, you can expect to hear everything from Dusty Springfield to Al Green to The Statler Brothers. The music will not only provide just the right atmosphere for entertaining, but it will also be perfect for when you break out the dancing. We'll get to that later.

2. Milkshakes. $5.00.

Serving the right food at the right event is a critical part of entertaining. There are a few things you must have for a proper Quentin party.

Milkshakes. And they better be good. Of the $5.00 variety.

Burgers. What exactly do they call a Quarter Pounder in Paris? Don't be afraid to pick up a few "Royale with Cheese" burgers at the local McDonald's. For kicks, using printable mailing labels, make a kitschy sticker to label each wrapper appropriately. If you want to go with your own homemade burgers, simply print out the phrase (Royale with Cheese for Quarter Pounders and le Big Mac for, well, what else?) on heavy paper. Then, using toothpicks, make flag labels for each burger and insert the picks into the buns.

Fries. Now, it sounds like we've hit all the diner staples, but if you're not serving fries with mayonnaise, you can't really call this a Tarantino party, can you? Of course, make sure your guests have an array of condiments, but you must make sure your guests know that the "proper" way to eat fries is with mayonnaise. At least in Holland, that is.

Pop Tarts. Cheap, easy and essential to the pop culture world of Tarantino films.

Ear Wax Candy or Ear Shaped Candy. Oh yes. It does exist. Make sure you save these little favors for later in the party. Preferably while "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel is playing in the background. Your guests will be both appalled and impressed. A quality that is inherent in any Tarantino fan. You can find a link within the article's resources that will lead you to a variety of ear-shaped edibles. No, really.

3. Costumes

Persuade your guests to come dressed as one of Tarantino's many quirky characters to really make the event memorable and even more entertaining. For the most part, the costume items will be easy to find and, at the same time, will be instantly recognizable to any true fan. You might want to be a little more daring and dress as The Bride from Kill Bill or go with Mrs. Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction with her trademark black slacks and white top. Black page-boy wig is mandatory, however.

4. Twist Contest?

A little dancing never hurt anybody. Well, for the most part. Switch on your tunes and have a little Jack Rabbit Slim Twist Contest right in your own living room.

5. But what about those movies?

Of course, the movies are the reason this whole night exists, right? Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Kill Bill - Vol 1 & 2 are givens, but if you want a little variety, you might also throw in From Dusk Til Dawn and Desperado. Both of which featured Tarantino in starring roles and Dawn featured a screenplay co-written by Tarantino.

A Tarantino-movie filled night can be lots of fun, make for great photo opportunities of you and your friends and give you a party to remember for many years to come. Just don't call The Wolf to clean up your mess after the party's done.

Great article, and a great idea. Taranatino is a genius; a sick, twisted genius, but a genius all the same.
