How to Plan a Race Event

Racing Games for Kids

Here are some tips on how to plan a race event for kids.

Track Planning

Decide on where your racing game track can be built or improvised when starting to plan a race event. It can be straight or curvy but must provide adequate space for each driver. Safety should also be taken into consideration for public racing events where hundreds of people are expected. The track must have a noticeable finish line for drivers who are participating in your race event.

Race Car Drivers

Set a limit for the number of drivers that are allowed to participate in your racing games. A large number of race car drivers may be more suitable for fundraising events while smaller racers are appropriate for casual gatherings with friends or family. Each driver in the racing games should be identified using number tags or colors. Schedule a qualifying test for all interested drivers prior to the main race event. This will determine who has the necessary skills to compete in racing games based on his or her driving ability.

Mileage and Timeframes

Setup the duration of your race event based on timing or miles reached among all drivers participating in these racing games. A stopwatch can be used to determine top ten spots of drivers at the end of the race. Mileage will not apply to all racing games and depends on where your track is setup. A backyard or closed street racing game for kids does not have to include mileage. However, you can count miles if building a temporary race track that spans over a large space such as school gyms or football fields.

Racing Game Host

Hire someone to play the main host of a race event, which includes communication with audience members, drivers and officials. The host will announce when racing game will begin using catchy phrases similar to "Gentlemen, start your engines!" from NASCAR races. The racing game host will also announce winners, trouble on a race track and remind everyone about the rules setup for this race event.

Racing Flags

Purchase flags to guide drivers during each race and hire assistants to wave them. There should be at least one main flag person and two additional volunteers to help manage activities during the race event. You can purchase a white, yellow, green and red flag to correspond with the manner of activities that take place during NASCAR racing games or make your own. There are printing stores that can customize flags in other colors with the words "Go", "Stop" and other phrases to match the rules of your race event. Purchase one checkered flag to use when a winning driver crosses the finish line.
