How to Plan an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Everyone has them - they're stacked in the back of the closet, with the tag still attached that reads, 'to my Snuffle, from your great aunt Bertha'- those Ugly Christmas Sweaters, waiting for you to run out of clothes, forget the laundry and become compelled to wear them. But, what if you beat them to the punch? What if you found a fun way to use your ugly Christmas sweater? Consider planning an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, the best and most fun way to use the sweaters you'd rather forget on a train.

Step one: Invitations. You can make these out yourself with your computer and printer, or just your hand. Include a picture of a sweater, maybe one with a giant, fluffy Rudolph nose in the center, and little note describing the party situation. You have to decide here if the ugly Christmas sweaters will be mandatory or just a fun bonus. Also consider asking people to bring their spares, just in case someone else hasn't had the pleasure of receiving them.

Step two: plan the activities. One idea is to have contest for the 'Ugliest Christmas Sweater', or even other titles people can vote on, like 'Best Sweater for a Two Year Old' or 'Not As Bad As it Seems'. You can pass out voting slips that people check off, or just call people to the center of the room for judging. Which option you choose depends on the style and setting of the party.

Step three: Decorate the room. If you have especially old and unsentimental ugly Christmas sweaters lying around, use them as the decorations. Cut out the center, frame it, and use it as a wall decoration. You'd only need a couple of these and then some regular party decorations, like streamers and balloons.

Step four: the above steps will be enough to establish a theme, and you can do the rest of the party planning like any regular party. Buy food that tastes good, something small and can be handheld. If you do want to continue the theme, name the food with cute ugly Christmas sweater names, like cotton candy that's Leftover Fabric Fuzz.

Step five: have fun!

Ugly Sweater Christmas Parties are a great way to take a negative (an unattractive sweater) and turn it into a positive (a truly awesome and memorable Christmas celebration). Following the steps above, you are ensured a fun and slightly silly event.
