Roses love lots of moisture and also they love lots of sunlight, so be sure to pick a spot to plant them according to this. Once you have picked a spot for your rose bush to be planted you will need to dig a hole to place it in. When you dig the hole you want to be sure it will fully accommodate the roots, or roughly about the diameter of the rose bush after two years of its life. You do not have to dig deeper than one shovel's depth for your rose bush if the native soil you are digging in is good. However if the soil is bad and you have to add soil, dig deeper for the rose bush, anywhere from 18 inches to two feet. Place your rose bush in the hole, making sure that the roots are not wrapped around the base of the rose bush, and then lay your roots out in the hole straight and even. Now you will fill the hole with soil, if you have poor soil you will be using, you can add something such as sand to the hole halfway first, make sure that you even the sand out at the ends to meet the soil so that the roots of the rose bush do not go into shock with the foreign soil as they grow.
You can then fill the hole with water to soak down the soil, once the water drains, you can add the soil to the top half of the hole and make sure to pack down your soil firmly. A good idea for your rose bush would be to shape the surface into a bowl or indention so that when you water your bush, the water will not run away from the plant. Next you can add about three inches of mulch so that when your rose bush is watered the water does not evaporate as fast, make sure to soak your rose bush with water to settle the soil down into the roots. Always make sure to keep your rose bush watered as it loves the moisture.
I hope these tips were helpful to you when you plant your rose bushes. I think roses are the perfect plants to plant in a garden or yard and I hope that yours grow and thrive to bring beauty to your home.
