How to Use a Plastic Sled Around Your House

Sleds Have Many More Uses Than Providing Winter Fun for the Kids

Kassidy Emmerson
My grandson pleaded for a plastic sled while we were out shopping one day. Remembering all the fun my siblings and I had sled riding when we were kids, I bought him one. To avoid squabbles among the kids, I bought two plastic sleds to be kept at my house. When the kids visited, they spent hours sliding down the hills and pulling each other around. Then one night, I had a difficult task to do. Remember the old saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention"? When I remembered the sleds in my garage, I knew my problem was solved.
Read on to find out how to use a plastic sled around your house.

Winter-Time Tasks
I had to take a large bag of trash down my driveway for the service to pick-up. What made this ordinary task a problem was the significant amount of ice and snow on the ground. I doubted I could carry the heavy item and navigate my way safely. So, I retrieved the plastic sled from the garage. I loaded it with the trash. Then I pulled the sled along and completed the task without any problems.

All Year-Round Tasks
Since then I've used a plastic sled to complete a variety of chores around the house. I easily move groceries from my car to the house. Using a sled is especially helpful in transporting heavy cases of soda pop, cat food, dog food and containers of cat litter. It glides along smoothly in the grass.

I've also used a plastic sled to move potted plants around the yard when I'm planting. I can take a bag of mulch or potting soil along with me effortlessly as I move from flower bed to bed. I can load it up with the garden tools I need as well. The household uses for a plastic sled are endless.

You have to be careful not to overload a plastic sled because it will crack and break. But, using a sled to move items will save your back and make the task easier.

Oh aren't you clever! We have the old wooden sleds with the metal runners that don't work too well in grass, but I can see how these plastic ones would be handy to have for yard chores :)

You are so creative, Kassidy! I never would have thought of using a sledge (sled) to transport rubbish down the driveway for the binmen to take away.

Good article...no reason to let it gather dust in the winter!
