Like any instrument playing drums well needs dedication, hard work and many hours of practice to learn the basics. You then build up on the skills, practice advanced lessons that get complex and fun. Good drummers usually have no less than 2 to 5 years of regular drums practice!

The first and foremost thing required to learn drums is the desire that you want to learn no matter what or how difficult it is and work through the basic lessons. Once you have firmly decided and persist it's only a matter of time. The best way to learn drums is to practice the lessons when you have access to the drums while you attend your drums training classes or have your own drum set if recommended by your trainer and then practice it mentally whenever you get free time so that the lessons are recollected when required and this will help you advance rapidly to new lessons.

It is best to join drum lesson classes near you. A teacher would help you teach the basics and correct any errors initially. Playing the drums needs a lot of stamina so it is a good practice that you exercise regularly and ask your teacher for specific exercises for the wrist, shoulders, back, knees and ankles as drums require these body parts to be strong and able to handle the stress initially. In case you experience any discomfort it would be a good practice to consult your physician.

There are many web sites that you can learn drums online but it makes a lot of difference to have a teacher teach you giving the attention required and correcting you initially. You will be far ahead in playing drums with a good teacher rather than trying on your own. Once you have master the basics you could then try the advanced lessons that are available online.
