How to Make a Plunger Bowl

Angel
I guess the first thing you may be asking is "What is a plunger bowl?" Well it's exactly what it sounds like. It's a bowl that holds your plunger. It's not sanitary for your plunger to sit on the floor. After you plunge an overflowing toilet, where do you place that plunger when you are done? I'd hate to think you are placing it on carpet. The plunger is wet, and it's covered in everything that was in the toilet the last time you plunged it, and the time before. Why not store it in something a bit cleaner, healthier, prettier and wiser? Well that's how I came up with this idea. I had recently remodeled my bathroom floor, and my toilet started to flood. I said, "Oh no you don't, not on my new floor!" I grabbed the plunger, and plunged the toilet. Afterwards, stood there holding the plunger wondering, what on earth to do with it. I certainly didn't want to place it on my new floor, and I couldn't very well leave it in the toilet. I also wasn't about to place it in my nice new sink either. I looked around for something to put it in, and came up with this idea that only took less then 15 minutes to create.

All you will need to create a plunger bowl is the following:

1 pair of scissors

1 knife

1 roll of matching contact paper of your choice

1 empty 96 ounce or larger bottle of bleach

Take your empty bleach bottle and off the top, leaving a height from the bottom up of about 5 or 6 inches. This gives you your bowl to work with. If you are using a knife to cut off the top, use your scissors to trim it up.

Once your bowl is created and trimmed nice, and smooth it's time to cover it with the contact paper of your choice. The reason you should use contact paper is because there is such a huge variety to choose from, and it sticks very well. You could if you wanted to just leave your bowl you created boring, plain and white. But I choose to be creative, and have everything match, as much as possible.

Take your contact paper, and start with the line on the bleach bottle. There is a line where the bleach bottle was melted together when it was created, it's best to work with that. Line your contact paper up and smoothly, and slowly place it all around the outside of your bowl, don't worry about cutting it yet, I will explain shortly why. It may take some peeling, and unpeeling to get your smooth effect.

Now you have two choices here, you can either trim off the extra all the way around it, or you can tuck it inside. I tucked mine inside and I will explain why as well as how.

I tucked my extra contact paper into my plunger bowl because you can see inside the plunger bowl when placed on the floor, and I wanted it to match.

The way I tucked the contact paper into my plunger bowl was, I cut it down to about ¾ of an inch in three different spots. This made it so the contact paper folded nicely around the rim of the plunger bowl, as well as folded inside the plunger bowl smoothly. I did not have so much extra material that it went completely down inside the plunger bowl. I left about one inch uncovered for the purpose of when you put a plunger into the plunger bowl, it often contains toilet water.
