How to Be a Poet and Invent Your Own Ryhme Form

Mario V. Farina
I invented a poetry form called Rhyme-O-Gram many years ago. It works like this:

You need to find four words that use the same letters, then make a four-line rhyming poem that uses those words in a meaningful way.

Suppose the four words are east, teas, eats, seat.

A poem you might write could be this:

A Fabulous Land
The fabulous east is known for its teas
and tropical fish and coconut trees.
The seat is a mat whenever one eats,
and when people go out, they dress up in sheets.

New poetry form, poetry, poems, different poetry form, writing poems

Those Miserable Critters
Oh, how oft I'll say ___ ___ ___ ___ to a cat!
but ___ ___ ___ ___ will come back wherever I am..
The way a cat ___ ___ ___ ___ does ___ ___ ___ ___ a spell upon me.
Oh, please keep those critters from bothering me.

The needed words are scat, cats, acts, cast.

You now have two challenges. First, can you create a Rhyme-O-Gram yourself? Second, can you solve the ones that are shown below?

The Witch
Her ___ ___ ___ ___ face a ___ ___ ___ ___ may hide,
but not her soul so ___ ___ ___ ___ inside.
There serpents ___ ___ ___ ___ and vermin creep.
There demons in the darkness weep.

The Chief
The ship's first ___ ___ ___ ___
joined our ___ ___ ___ ___ at the inn.
His role as a chef had gained him uncommon renown.
The ___ ___ ___ ___ he prepared major trophies did win
and did ___ ___ ___ ___ the most finicky diners in town.

The Lass
There was a young ___ ___ ___ ___ of a lass,
who could ___ ___ ___ ___ golden ___ ___ ___ ___ out of grass.
but, alas she took ___ ___ ___ ___ in unlady-like sips
till, at last, she succumbed to the glass.

In Europe
When in Europe, I raced through the __ ___ ___ ___ .
There were eighty-one ___ ___ ___ ___ and I sure set the pace.
My ___ ___ ___ ___ would hurrah and my back they would ___ ___ ___ ___.
as I came in first at the end of each race.
