For every parent who has ever attended his or her son's youth basketball game in an organized league, you will have now realized that there are parents who volunteer every game to help out keep track of score and the game clock for the game. In most youth basketball organizations, parents are needed to help volunteer by keeping track of the scoring booklet and the game clock. The referees are in charge of officiating the game but if parents weren't able to volunteer to help out, the game would not be able to be played. So without further ado, I explain how to use the game clock so that the next time your son has a basketball game, you can do your part to help out the community and your child.

The game clock may sound like a complicated and weird contraption at first glance. But after some experience using it, the gadget will seem like second nature to you.

On the game clock, the most important function is the running game clock time. There is a button to add or subtract points. The most important thing is to be careful of what you are doing when keeping track of score because you don't want to give the wrong team points.

On the game clock, there is a running game time which you don't need to touch when the game is in progress. You will need to stop the clock when a foul is called. The game clock has a buzzer for the person to use when a team subs players in and out of the game. The buzzer indicates to the referee to momentarily stop the game so that subs can come in and out. When subs come in and out, the game clock should also be stopped. When play resumes, you will need to resume the game clock. Some game clocks also have shot clock in which a certain amount of time is allocated for a team to shoot the ball.

The game clock also has an array of other features including keeping track of what quarter or half you are in. Game clocks can go up or down in time which is a very helpful feature.

If there is ever a dispute between the game clock and the game booklet, the game booklet takes precedent because you can back it up with how many points each player has. It is much easier to make a mistake on the game clock than in the game booklet.
