Things You Need
1 ten ounce package of frozen pizza dough
2 large Idaho or Yukon Gold potatoes
Olive or peanut oil
12 ounces of shredded cheese
Salt and Pepper to taste
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Grease a large pizza pan, then unfold the dough. Use your hands to work the dough into a thin crust, roughly the thickness of a cracker
Step 2
Peel and slice the potatoes. Make the slices thin, so they will cook quickly. Deep-fry the slices until they are golden brown. Remove from fryer, toss with salt and pepper to taste, then spread on a paper towel to drain.
Step 3
Brush the dough with a thin layer of olive or peanut oil. This will help the crust brown nicely and also help the bread and create the right consistency.
Step 4
Spread half of the grated cheese on the pizza, then add the potatoes in a single layer. Use the remaining cheese to top off the potatoes.
Step 5
Bake the pizza for fifteen minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges of the crust are a golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for three to five minutes, then cut into slices as you would do with any type of pizza.
Tips and Warnings
If you must have meat on your pizza, crumble and brown a pound of ground sirloin. Once the meat is cooked, drain off any excess grease, and add it to the pizza, preferably between the bottom layer of the cheese and the layer of fried potatoes.
For people who like more spice to their potatoes, use any combination of herbs and spices you like. This basic recipe can be adapted to suit the preferences of your family with ease.
If you are running late and don't have much prep time, pick up a thin-crust cheese pizza at a local pizzeria, then swing by a fast food joint and pick up a couple of orders of French fries. At home chop the fries into more or less uniform pieces, sprinkle on the cheese pizza, then top with some more cheese. Slide the pizza into the oven long enough to melt the top layer of cheese, and you're ready for dinner.
