How to Potty Train Your Two Year Old

The Earlier the Better

I am currently 8 months pregnant and also have a two year old daughter. My daughter is still wearing diapers and in my head I'm thinking " I have to buy 2 sizes of diapers and change a baby and a toddler daily?" I can't really be doing that when my baby is here. I decided to take charge, I went to my local Wal Mart and bought a potty training toilet for my daughter.

If you decide to do this make sure you buy one that makes the sound of the toilet flushing. Encourage your child to use it, when you have to go to the bathroom tell your child that you are going wee wee. Children often want to imitate everything grown ups do, such as my daughter. I bought her some Dora the Explorer panties and had her sit on the toilet till she had to go pee. She finally did and I was so happy.

She also felt like she was a big kid and wanted to use it all the time. It does take time for your little one to fully be prepared for potty training. At night I put a diaper on her just in case, but she wakes up with a dry diaper and then goes to the bathroom.
Remember to encourage them and to make them feel like what they did is super great, clap when they do and say yey!! My daughter feels like she is all grown up when she goes wee wee in her toilet. I can't get her to wear a diaper anymore because she feels like she has to be in her undies so she can go wee wee on her own.

Don't get frustrated if they don't catch on, every child learns differently. Some will catch on quick and some will take awhile, but eventually will get it.
Make sure you teach them to wipe, especially the girls, teach them to wipe correctly, from front to back.
There are many ways to potty train, keep it consistent, and if you don't want to have them wear undies yet you can buy them training pants. Keep them in easy to take off clothes, this way it is easier to go to the bathroom and they won't ask for your help, it also teaches them to dress themselves.

Keep your fingers crossed and make sure you have fun, don't demand it from them, they will do it when they're ready. Thankfully my daughter caught on quickly and I think its because I kept encouraging her daily. You can too if you try, just make sure not to pressure them and it will be fine.

  • Encourage them
  • Have fun
  • Do it consistently
Most toddlers start to potty train by 2 years in a half, but if you try you can start them early.

I have a 4 yr old daughter and a 2 yr old daughter, my 4 yr old wasnt intrested in the potty until she was 3 but when she was ready to go she took to it like a duck to water. Now my 2 yr old wants to go potty on her own so bad that she will sneak into the bathroom and try to go. She still can't tell when she has to go I put her o the toilet for at least 30 mins but she won't go but as soon as she gets down she pees. Right now she just likes to sit on the potty. Even if she doesn't go she will tell me that she went and want to flush the toilet. I don't know what to do with her hopfully she will eventually go for real.

I have a boy and two girls who are all potty trained and were before they were two. Personally, putting pull ups on a kid is mixing them up because its like a diaper. They need panties and underwear on so they can feel whats going on. Try to get them to visit the bathroom every hour and be excited about it, Little kids want to please grown ups and they want to see you are paying attention. I had two bathrooms, my son wouldn't use the bathroom that I used, he used "daddys" bathroom. Preferring to it as daddys bathroom, made him feel like a big boy. He never went in his bed. My girls were easy also. It just took a few times wetting their panties and it fell nasty to them. You save a whole lot of money just by buying underwear instead of pull ups, and taking a little time out to encourage them and be excited for them makes them very happy and positive.
