Why the Media Can Be Your Friend

The power of the press, even in today's era, can be a powerful instrument, and when utilized properly it can help promote both you and your product. A couple of ways you can capitalize on this underused power is via a media publicity campaign and creating articles for publication in a magazine. They can be very helpful putting your name in the public eye as an authority in your field of work. The go-to expert that people contact when they need advice in that area. It doesn't automatically mean they're going to become your best and most regular customer, but constantly being recognized in the press will go a long way in establishing your authority.

The biggest point you should realize when preparing an article or other media form is that you must have something of note to tell others. It should be unique, to set yourself apart from everyone else in your subject area. Take a minute to figure out exactly what it is you want to say, and how you want to say it. Once you're able to determine that, you have your edge to catch the media's interest.

You have to be invariable in your campaign. Stay in touch regularly with those in the media industry and strive to strengthen those business relationships. Once you've become established as an expert and your product or company proves its worth, the media will certainly take notice.

If you've never written an article before, it might seem a little overwhelming...especially if you don't have confidence in your writing abilities. But just like everything in life, with a little practice it will become easier. Try beginning with one article, and submit it to several different print and internet publications.

One you're comfortable with it, start to expand on that and try writing a regularly updated newsletter with material you can expand even more into future articles. Put them on your website for the search engines to find. The more content related to your expertise and your company that you make, the more business you will create for yourself.

Once you have an arsenal of articles, there's more you can do with them. Consider making a portfolio of all your written work that you can display to prospective customers. Make a permanent display of your best work and put it in your office or other area where the public will see it. You can even make copies of them and bind them into a kind of book to hand out as promotional material to clients or other businesses.

Finally, if your article ends up in a magazine, try asking the publisher for a few extra copies of that article. If you're told in advance of the publishing date, you might even be able to ask for extra copies of the magazine itself and use them to give to potential clients.

The power of the press is still powerful indeed. Harnessing this power for your business will help ensure steady growth for years to come.
