The first thing that you will need to do is put everything onto paper. This will include any passports or documents that you will need once you get to your new home. Remember that if you were not born in the country that you are moving too then you will need to have all of your paperwork in order. Whether you type it out or write it out you will definitely need some type of checklist. This will help to make sure that you get everything done in a decent amount of time without completely stressing yourself out. Some of the things that you should have on your list are each items in all rooms that you will need to pack. You should make sure that you divide everything up according to room.
For example you should have one section on your list just for the living room and a separate section on your list just for the kitchen. Make sure that you do this for all of your rooms. At the bottom of your list you should make sure to include cleaning for each room. You will want to sweep or vacuum once you have gotten everything packed up. You should also include cutting off or transferring all of the household utilities. You don't want to accidentally leave something in your name. Once you have completed your list then it is time to go out and purchase a few large being, medium bins and small bins. You may be thinking that you can just go and get some boxes and call it a day. However it is more practical to use bins that you can purchase from your local dollar store. If your dollar store does not have any of these bins then you can very easily purchase them from your local target or Wal-Mart store.
This is not to say that you can not use any card board boxes, but bins help to ensure that your items stay safe and secure. The more secure you pack your items the less likely things will end up breaking on you. Another suggestion is to ship all of your items ahead of you. Just make sure that there is someone there to receive all of your belongings when you arrive. Most people have their items shipped in large crates via a boat. This is also how many people ship their vehicles over seas with them. When it is time for you to pack your important papers you should make sure than they are all sealed up in some sort of safe. You never want to dump all of your papers into a box and sort it out when you get there.
The bottom line is that if you take the time to prepare properly a big move does not have to be stressful at all. Make sure that you start early and don't wait until the last minute to begin packing. You may even want to recruit some help to make sure that you get everything done in time.
