1. Prepare your children's lunch bag ahead of time. Place a healthy lunch and snack in your children's bag the night before he has to attend school. Be sure not to forget the napkins, drinks, and utensils. Preparing the lunch bag ahead of time will make mornings easier for both you and your children. You will not have to frantically rush to get things prepared if they have been prepared earlier.
2. Talk to your children about school before they actually attend. Let your children know what they may face in school and give them some ways to deal with it. Brief your children with how they will get to and from school and what they should expect to do after school and what time you will be home. When your children get home be sure to ask them how their day went at school. It is important to keep the lines of communication open every single day. Giving your children a blueprint of their day will lessen their anxiety because they will know what to expect.
3. Keep mornings consistent by establishing a routine for your children to follow. You can prepare breakfast for your children every morning and then stock their bags with their lunch while they are eating (if you prefer not to do so the night before.) You can also make sure that your children have all of their schoolwork in their bag. Establishing a routine before school is important because it prepares your children for the start of the day.
4. Attend every parent night. Parent nights also known as open house or parent-teacher conferences are very important to attend because they give parents insight into what is going on in their children's life. By attending parent night parents will get to see their children's school environment and meet other parents and children. Attending these events shows the children and their teachers that parents care. It sends a strong message.
