First of all, you need flour. There are many varieties of flour that you can purchase at your local grocery or discount store. Of course, if you use plain flour you're going to need to spice it up some. That's why I like to use Louisiana flour mix. Louisiana flour mix already contains different spices and flavors, which makes your fried fish all the more tasty. Just pick the type of flavored flour you want, and you're all set.
You should also purchase a deep fryer, if you can. A deep fryer will make it much easier to cook the fish with, and they're fairly inexpensive. You can find them at local grocery or discount stores as well. And don't forget to have a sharp knife and a cutting board handy.
You'll also need oil. What type of oil, you ask? Well, just about any type that you're used to. I usually just purchase the cheapest oil I can find, and use it to fry the fish in. It usually costs around five dollars. Oh, and be sure to use plenty of oil. I usually add about half a gallon or so. As for the temperature of the oil, make sure you set your deep fryer to four hundred degrees. This thoroughly cooks the fish, and it will kill any bacteria that may reside in the raw meat.
And what type of fish are you going to fry? Personally, I prefer trout. However, you can use whatever you like. Catfish, bass, redfish, and salmon are all excellent choices for your next meal. These types of fish are usually fairly easy to find at your local grocer so take a look. Some fish are undoubtedly cheaper than others, which may or may not influence your decision.
What will you cook with your fish? Try frying some french fries. It's easy to do, and french fries are a delicious side entree to go with your fried fish. Simply chop up a potato, or use a machine to make your french fries curly. Then all that's left for you to decide on is whether or not you want to leave the skin on the potatoes or not. I prefer to leave the potato skin on, but it doesn't really matter. If you leave the skin on, you will not have to make such a mess. Peeling potatoes can be quite messy and tiresome. But it's your choice.
Finally, let's talk about some extra seasoning for your fish and french fries. Instead of using salt, try some Season All. Season All tastes very similar to salt, and there's less sodium in it. Also, after you have fried your fish, try splashing some lemon juice on it to improve the flavor. And ketchup is always a nice sauce to have, especially for the french fries.
Frying fish is a delicious way for fish to be prepared, and it's really not that difficult to do. Just follow the instructions in this article, and you'll do fine.

Post a CommentThe spices sound great! I prefer using pancake flour to coat fish before frying. It turns out golden brown, and absolutely delicious. :)
