How to prepare for the GRE General Test

Currently, I am preparing to take the GRE, The GRE is a graduate entrance exam. The GRE General Test is required for admissions into most Graduate schools in the United States. I am writing to help everyone who is thinking about taking the GRE. Here are some rules to follow to make your journey to GRE testing a stress-free (as stress-free as it can get) experience.

Rules:
1) Pick a test date: This idea may sound strange considering you have not even open a book. If you choose a date you are more likely to stay on track when studying.
2) Take a practice test: Of course you do not want to take this test once let alone twice but trust me it will do a world of good. The purpose of this is to get an idea of your strengths and weaknesses.
3) Once you get the results of your practice test, you know what section(s) that needs to be studied first.

Now I will break down sections; start studying the section you received the lowest score on.

Verbal Section: This section consist of sentence completion, analogies, antonyms, and reading comprehension.
a) Sentence completion: this section test your ability to use cues to figure out the meaning of the sentence.
b) Analogies: this section test your ability to recognize relationship between the words in a pair
c) Antonyms: this section test your knowledge of vocabulary.
d) Reading Comprehension: this section measures your ability to read with understanding

Study Tips: Start building your vocabulary. Check out www.review.com (have to sign up, free) but you can receive a GRE word of the day sent to your email address. Read a chapter a day. Learn prefixes and suffixes (use this method if you don't want learn the entire word or press for time).

Quantitative Section: This section consist of quantitative comparison, problem solving, and data interpretation.
a) Quantitative Comparison: this section test your ability to reason.
b) Problem Solving: this section is complete problem solving that you are use to seeing in middle and high school.
c) Data Interpretation: this section have questions involving data analysis and graphs.

Study Tips: Performing as many as math problems as possible to get the feel for the GRE math section. Base problems on information given. Do not over analyze the question.

Analytical Writing: this section you will be asked to write two essays. One will be an "issue" essay and the other will be an "argumentative" essay.

Study Tip: Write an essay a day to improve your writing skills. Check out www.gre.org site to find "issue" and "argumentative" essay topics. Good Luck
