How to Prepare for a Honeymoon

Kristi Patrice Carter
A honeymoon vacation is exactly the prescription to recover from months of wedding planning and stress. It's also the start of your new life with your spouse. Though we all want our honeymoons to be special, we sometimes need to watch our budgets. You can plan a honeymoon that is both romantic and economical.

Set a budget. If you determine your price in advance, you will be more likely to stick to trips that are within your price range.

Consider areas that will be in their off-season at the time of your honeymoon. Not only will this give you a better rate, but it may also provide empty beaches and a more private stay.

Be flexible with dates. Be willing to leave on an off-peak day, even if it is a few days after your ceremony. Use the extra time between your wedding and your honeymoon to say goodbye to family members and=2 0friends, move into your new home, relax or write thank-you notes.

Look for honeymoon rates. Hotels may be willing to upgrade your room or give you a better price. Airlines may upgrade your seats or provide amenities to enjoy on the flight. Check for discount codes at sites such as RetailMeNot.com that you might be able to apply to your airline ticket or your hotel stay.

Register For Your Honeymoon Trip. Look into setting up a honeymoon registry at a site such as Honeymoon Wishes or Honeyfund. (See resources for link). Just as guests will want to buy you gifts to help you start your new life together, they will be thrilled to help you take your honeymoon. When you advise your friends and family about your wedding registry, let them know that you have also registered for your honeymoon and that they are able to gift you a dinner or hotel night's stay on your trip.

Opt for all-inclusive vacation. Many honeymoon-oriented resorts offer all-inclusive packages and you can plan a trip that will fit your budget. Cruises are usually all-inclusive, too, and can be good options.

Book through bargain sites, such as Priceline.com and Travelocity.com. Online travel auctions, such as those on eBay.com, can also be a great deal. Make sure that the bargain hotels and airlines will provide the quality you want for your honeymoon.
