First, the athlete must be hydrated. This process takes a long time.
Usually in the morning before the event, it is time to begin the moisturizing. Water is the preferred method, in any form. Flavored water is also very good but watch out for the sugar added solution that will make you thirstier. You can never drink too much so don't worry and drink as much as you can. Sometimes the stress of the event makes you feel not thirsty so you have to force yourself to drink water.
Eating is also very important. You should focus on a good meal the day before the competition and eat things like pasta, unprocessed rice that will give you long term energy. Avoid meat and sugared meals that will disturb your insulin levels.
Although taking some extra carbohydrates before competing can enhance your endurance, the optimum regime is to do this and takes carbs during the competition.
It is also necessary that the athlete get a good night of rest. A good amount of sleep before a big sporting event is about 8-9 hours. Not more than that as the body will begin a next cycle of sleep, leaving the athlete tired when he or she wakes up. It is ideal to learn more about sleeping habits and to optimize this process. Sleeping is very important and learning how to relax is crucial in order to sleep well.
Third and last part of the process is visualization.
Many people talk about this as a fundamental tool for the preparation, but few really know how productive it is. Visualization is useless if it can not be used for sporting events. Athletes must repeat visualization and be helped by specialists in order to gain from this practice. The benefit of the visualization techniques is that the athlete feel as if they had practiced those movement several times, and allow the athlete to be less nervous during the competition.
If the athlete follow all the above-mentioned procedures, before heading on the battlefield at large sporting events, they will be at their best, regardless of how difficult it is to compete.
