How to Prepare Your Own Household Cleaning Products

The Many Uses of Baking Soda!

Johanna Swith
I have been experimenting again, and I have tried alternatives to household cleaning products that are sure to please with their economical and simple components. There is a good chance you will already have all or most of the ingredients required to complete these 'recipes' for household cleaning solutions.

Bathroom cleaners are an important and sometimes expensive part of having a clean home. Do you frequently spend three or more dollars on products like soft scrub? You can replace soft scrub for a home made solution that will only cost you around forty cents per batch. By simply combining about a tablespoon of lemon juice, one third of a cup of baking soda, and just enough water to make a paste. This home made alternative works really well, and it will save you money! An added bonus is no harsh chemical smell!

What about your carpets? Do you use a sprinkle on carpet refresher? If so you are paying upwards of three dollars per container, depending on where you live. Baking soda costs under one dollar for a large box in most discount stores, and often you can purchase 4 boxes for one dollar. It provides better results than a sprinkle on carpet refresher, at a fraction of the cost. Simply sprinkle the baking soda onto your carpet and allow it to set for ten to fifteen minutes. This will allow the baking soda to absorb odors in your carpet. Vacuum it up, enjoy the fresh scent, and the major savings!

Baking soda is a great household item, it is versatile, it multi tasks and baking soda is inexpensive. Baking Soda is also a great alternative to store bought fabric softeners. Use 2 tablespoons of baking soda to 4 tablespoons of white vinegar, add directly to the wash. You will enjoy fresh and clean and soft clothes for a fraction of the cost of store bought fabric softeners.

You can make an alternative to Comet, or abrasive cleaners by mixing baking soda and salt in equal parts. It works just as well as Comet like cleaners and it will only cost you twelve cents or less per batch.

Finally replace your pledge furniture polish by combining half a teaspoon of mineral oil with one third of a cup of lemon juice or white vinegar. Place the mixture in a spray bottle, spray it on to the surface you are polishing and wipe it off. You will enjoy a lovely polished home at a fantastic savings compared to the price of a national brand furniture polish.

I hope these simple recipes help you achieve a clean and chemical free home. I also hope you enjoy the savings from preparing your own household cleaning products.
