How to Prepare for a Photo Shoot as a Model

I have been modeling for a while now and over the years I have learned some tips on how to prepare for a photo shoot. I hope these help you in creating some fabulous pictures.

Clothes- If you are bringing your own wardrobe make sure to pack all of your shoes and clothes in separate bags. I usually pack duffel bags but rolling luggage might be easier. Try on all outfits before packing them just to make sure you have the look you are going for.

Jewelry- Bring a variety of rings, necklaces, bracelets, and even hair accessories.

Exfoliate- In the shower the night before make sure to shave and either use exfoliation gloves or a scrub to get skin nice and smooth.

Spray Tan- Put on a thin layer of lotion first to get rid of any dry spots and then spray your entire body. I like to use Neutrogena's micro-mist airbrush sunless tan. It's easy and goes on evenly.

Makeup- If you are dong your own make and you plan on doing different looks you should start with the easiest first. As the shoot goes on and you change into different outfits you can add makeup, which is easier then having to remove and re-start. Make sure to bring your own mirror and any makeup you may need. If a makeup artist (aka MUA) is going to be there ask how they want you to arrive.

Fake Eyelashes- These are a must. They help make your eyes stand out in the photos. You can choose something very dramatic or something natural.

Hair- If your doing your own hair, style as desired the morning of the shoot but make sure to bring brushes and hairspray with you. If a hair stylist will be there make sure you ask how they want your hair to be when you arrive.

Nails- Make sure the night before you have given yourself a mini manicure and pedicure. File your nails and apply a coat of a light colored nail polish. If you are don't have a lot of time you can use press on nails. They also make press on nails for the toes.

Teeth- Eat something light and make sure after you brush your teeth you don't eat or drink anything that will stain them. Stick with water, it's healthy and clear.

What To Wear- Wear a button down shirt so you don't mess up your hair or makeup. Loose bottoms so you don't have any indentations in the skin, especially if your doing a swimsuit shoot! Flip-flops are nice to wear because they slip right off.

Extra Tip- To make your skin look like it's glistening, spray a tanning oil all over you and rub it in before you take the pictures. It adds a nice touch.
