For many people attunement is a special experience as they become empowered to channel Reiki energy to heal themselves and others. After an attunement you might notice some physical changes to your body; you may for a short while feel a little run down or you might feel deeply emotional. Any change will be positive as it is a natural part of the cleansing process.
There are guidelines suggested to assist in the preparing of the attunement process, however the attunement will work whether or not these are followed. Even so there are some practical measures that are likely to help the Reiki student obtain the maximum benefit from their attunement experience. Each individual should decide which ones might suit their lifestyle.
How to Prepare for a Reiki Attunement
- Refrain from eating meat or fish for at least a day prior to attunement. These foods sometimes contain antibiotics, hormones and toxins that unbalance your system
- Drink plenty of water. Water is a natural conductor of energy and helps to rid the body of toxins
- Do not drink alcohol for at least three days prior to the attunement
- Cut down on sweets and chocolates or cut them out altogether
- If you smoke, try to cut back on your smoking prior to your attunement
- Reduce the time you spend watching TV, reading newspapers and magazines. In particular do not watch violent programmes
- It might be helpful to go for quiet walks and spend some time with nature
li> - Try to take more note of your surroundings and how you relate to your environment
- Try to release any feelings of anger, worry, anxiety, jealousy or hate that you have
- Build up your own power through meditation
As part of Dr Usui's spiritual and healing preparations, he encouraged meditation and fasting. Many people like to prepare for their attunement and go through a period of cleansing afterwards.
During a cleansing period all the negative physical, emotional and spiritual energies that are bottled up inside are released. This may occur in the form of an instant emotional release or perhaps a latter onset of a cold or through strange dreams, emotional experiences and even old memories rising to the surface.
Not everyone however experiences symptoms after a Reiki treatment or attunement. Some people might not experience anything at all and this is not unusual. For as in all areas of Reiki, every individual's experience is a unique one.
