Leg Workouts and Cardio
There's nothing like being out of shape and hitting the slopes. After a few runs, your legs are so sore that you do not want to ski anymore. Remember that everyone wants to get their money's worth from their lift ticket and that means trying to hit as many runs in one day as possible. However, if you are not in shape, then your day will be cut short due to extreme soreness of the legs. The best way to prepare for ski season is by going to the gym and working on your legs. Skiing is all about leg strength. Performing lunges, plyometrics and other leg enhancing exercises are a great way to tone your body and get into shape. Besides leg workouts, cardio is another way to get the heart pumping and to ensure that your endurance will hold up on the slopes.
Check Ski Gear
There's nothing worse than hitting the slopes and realizing that your gear is broken or mal-functioning. Remember to check your ski boots, poles and skis before going to the ski report. Try on your ski boots and see if they still fit. Check your ski poles and see whether there is any damage that needs to be attended to. If the bottoms of your skis are scratched and have large nicks in them, go to your local outdoor retailer and have your skis waxed and sharpened. Sharpening skis will ensure that the edges are able to carve better and will provide a better all around ski experience.
Besides the ski equipment, remember to look at your ski clothing. The worst feeling in the world is having a wet ski jacket and ski pants. If the water proofing on your jacket and pants have faded, consider spraying your clothing with a scotch guard to protect against light moisture.
Following these tips will ensure a pleasant trip when hitting the ski slopes.
