How to Make Preschool Drop-Offs Easier

Preschoolers are as different as their amazing artwork. Some children cannot wait to get out of the car and into the classroom. For other kids, preschool drop-offs are terrifying. The big question many parents have is how to make preschool drop-offs easier? How do you give comfort to your child without unsettling the entire school? Use these suggestions to get an easier preschool drop-off experience.

Get to Know the Teacher

We have all met those children who behave for their friends' parents but never their own. In your child's case, this is probably true too. As soon as Mom swoops out of the driveway, the tears will stop. Overcome school anxiety by getting to know your child's teacher. Good teacher-parent communication will better monitor what is really happening with the child. If the child refuses to settle down, over a few days, she may not be ready for preschool or needs a different teacher. Some children need a lot of affirmation and comfort while others are more independent. If your child is a hugger and the teacher is not, you may have some conflict. Get involved in providing a snack or craft materials for the teacher's take in activity. Know what the teacher's drop off activities includes and talk about it with your child. Get excited and he will get excited!

Earlier Bedtimes

Kids will act out during preschool drop off if they are cranky and tired. If your little is fit throwing instead of saying good bye, he may be tired. Place your child in bed earlier and send kids to school with a nutritious breakfast. Earlier bedtimes and early rising may be less stressful for your little ones.

Security Objects

Sometimes a child needs some reassuring. Give your preschooler a security item to hold and look at when she feels stressed. If blankets and toys are banned then send something small like a note, a picture, or even your scented hankie.

Car Activities

Avoid drop off anxiety by giving her something to do when she is in the car. Rather than worry about the upcoming school day, give her an activity to do while she rides to class. A morning cartoon on DVD, a game of I Spy or a coloring book may be the right strategy for making preschool drop offs easier.

Try different techniques until you get one that you works for your child. Over time and with some patience you will learn how to make preschool drop offs easier for you and your child.
