How to Do a Pressure Flip on a Skateboard

A Guide to Learning the Pressure Flip

Life
Pressure flips are a relatively less common skateboarding trick than they were a few years back, but they are still a really fun trick to learn. In this article I hope to teach you the basics of doing a pressure flip, and hopefully you can learn how to consistently land one.

As with all tricks, this is going to take some practice so don't get too frustrated at first. There are many different ways to do pressure flips on a skateboard, but the way I am going to teach you is to make the board spin backside and flip like a heel flip. This is a different kind of skateboarding trick because you do not need any previous knowledge on how to ollie, it is simply done by slamming your back foot down and make the board do the motion.

To approach this trick correctly, you will need to assume your regular skateboarding stance. This means put your front foot wherever you feel most comfortable with it. As for the back foot, you want to put it where you normally would (between the bolts and the incline of the tail) but you want to make sure your toes are in the right place so you can apply the right amount of pressure to make it flip correctly.

I recommend standing by the side of the board and practicing the motion of making the board flip with your back foot. To do this, stand aside your board and place your foot in the aforementioned position and make sure your foot is sort of pointing towards the front of the board so you can get the proper flip going. Your toes will be very close to being above the back set of wheels if you are doing this correctly. When you push down to make the board pop, you want to also flick your toe forward and inward, which will make the board spin. Now push down on the board and flick your toe inward and you should notice the board has done a pressure flip. Keep doing this until you can do it repetitively and you are able to consistently catch it with your back foot once again. Again this is different from most tricks so it might take a little practice. If you can do this practice well, performing the actual trick will be no problem.

That is the basic procedure for performing a pressure flip. A problem you will undoubtedly encounter is that the board will just hit your front foot and fall to the ground. To prevent this from happening, you want to make sure you focus on getting your front foot out of the way as quickly as possible, and also make sure you bring it up high enough so it is not interfering with the trick. Focus on not trying to pop the board and much as trying to flip it, this is not considered a big pop trick.

Good luck learning how to perform pressure flips on your skateboard, I hope this guide will assist you in doing so. As always, feel free to check out my other skateboard related articles here.
