How to Use a Pressure Washer Effectively
First Timer? Save Some Time with These Pressure Washing Tips!
Using a pressure washer means more than attacking the surface you are cleaning with a high blast of water pressure. Before you start, make sure you have the necessary equipment to protect your eyes and skin (if using chemicals to clean). Check your pressure washer before use to make sure it is in good operating condition. If you will be using water that will be over 140 F, make sure to wear a protective suit to ensure you won't get burned.
The volume of water in your pressure washer is the same whether you are in the low pressure or in the high-pressure setting. What this means is that no matter what setting you have your pressure washer set to, the same amount of water flow will pass through the wand. Remember this tip when you are in the soap or chemical addition phase of using your pressure washer. It's the pressure that will do the work...not the amount of water you use. Adjusting the distance between the wand of the pressure washer and the stain you are spraying will help in the timely removal of the stain. Make a few practice attempts with your pressure washer to get the feel for it's settings and the distance needed for the job at hand before you begin.
When you are ready to use your pressure washer, choose the soap or chemical that is right for the job at hand. You probably will want to blast the stains to smithereens as soon as you turn on your pressure washer, but slow down! If you start out at maximum power, your soap or chemical is not going to be able to combat the stain it's been sent to attack. For the first few minutes of using your pressure washer, use the low setting to let the soap or chemical lather up and have a chance to clean the stain you're trying to remove. You will be able to switch from low to high pressure from the wand of the pressure washer, which makes the job of rinsing easier for you.
Once you have completed the soap or chemical phase of your wash, you are ready to begin rinsing with your pressure washer. This is where you are ready for that blast of high water pressure. Using your wand in a sweeping motion on high pressure, you should be able to now rinse away and remove any stain with a pressure washer.
When you are using a pressure washer on higher surfaces, consider getting an extension for the original wand. You can also adjust the spray flow on your wand for a more extendable flow of the water. Clean in an affective manner; make the most of your time working on this project by following these tips to ensure a perfect outcome.
