Spring is here and summer is near and with summer comes pests that bite and sting. There are a ton of pests that bite and sting such as mosquitoes, wasps, bees, yellow jackets, hornets, fire ants, black flies, and horseflies. The little pests that cause reactions such as pain, itching, redness, and some swelling are wasps, bees, yellow jackets, hornets, and fire ants. Mosquitoes, black flies, horseflies, and regular black or red ants do bite or sting but do not cause as much of a reaction as the rest do. Mosquitoes are just plain irritating when they bite because they can cause the area to itch. Try these home remedies to prevent bites and stings from these pesky creatures.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Stay Calm

If a bee, wasp, yellow jacket, or any other flying pest comes near you, stay calm. Do not wave your hands at the pest or you will make them angry and they will bite or sting you. Stand still or slowly move away from the area to get away from the Summer pest.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Garlic and Onions

By eating foods such as garlic and onions, you can unsweeten your sweat and keep those pesky pests away from you. Some insects like the smell of your sweat if you eat something sweet and will hover over you and try to bite or sting you. Eat garlic and onions to unsweeten your sweat and repel those Summer pests.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Avoid Bright Clothing

Insects and bugs are attracted to bright, flowery clothing and rough fabrics. To prevent a bite or a sting from an insect wear smooth fabric and light colored clothing such as tan, white, green, or khaki if you are planning on spending a lot of time outdoors this summer.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Go Unscented

If you want to prevent a bite or sting from a pest, do not wear perfume or any kind of fragrance. Fragrance attracts all types of pests. Such fragrances include perfume, cologne, scented after shave, hair spray, and even soap. You might feel weird without your favorite scents but it will be worth it to not get bitten or stung this Summer. This doesn't mean you have to go without these fragrances all the time, especially soap. However, when going camping or doing any kind of outdoor activities for a long period of time, going without your favorite fragrances will be well worth not getting bitten or stung by a pest.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: No Bright Colored Jewelry

Bright colored jewelry attracts bugs just like brightly colored clothes do. If you plan on spending lots of time outside this Summer, leave your jewelry at home to keep the pests away.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Don't go Barefoot

You might enjoy going barefoot this Summer and feeling the grass between your toes, but this is a bad idea. There are many bees and yellow jackets in the grass that will sting you. Bess are attracted to the clover in the grass while yellow jackets build their nests in the grass. You might be tempted to go without shoes but it is not a smart idea if you don't want to get bitten or stung.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Keep Food Covered

If you are having a picnic or barbecue outside this Summer, keep all food covered. Pests are attracted to the food and will hover over it giving them a chance to get a bite out of you too. Besides, you don't want ants crawling all over your food, do you?

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Watch Your Drink

When drinking a cold beverage this summer, look before you drink it. All kinds of bugs like to fly around drinks and may land in it. If you don't look before you drink, you might get stung on the tongue or your throat. This could lead to an emergency room visit and spoil your fun outside.

Tips on Preventing Bites and Stings: Be Aware of What's Around you

While gardening or doing any kind of outside activity, watch your surroundings. Be wary of what kind of pests are around you while enjoying your summer activity.
