How to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse

Michelle Knudson
Nearly every family in the world has been around someone that is a child molester. The tips listed below may help save someone in your family. Learn five ways on how to prevent child sexual abuse.

Most stats show that child sexual abuse is often done by a family friend in the family. Sometimes it may even be a relative in the family. We often overlook the perfect family friend that we have known forever. You have to remember that most people who are sexually abused are usually related to the abuser or close to them. Many times it is also friends of older siblings or older neighbor kids that do sexual abuse to children.

Do not have your children stay at a friends home

You never know what is going on in the house behind closed doors or late in the night. The father might molest the stepdaughters for all you know. You don't want to put your child into the care of someone that you don't know everything about. The dad in the family may be able to convince the child to not say anything to anyone if he did anything to them. It is a safety reason to not let the children stay at someone else's house that is a friend from school or wherever.

Do not leave children alone with friends of the family

Make it a habit to not leave them alone with any friends. You may feel that you have known someone forever, but you don't really know that person. How many times have we heard about someone ending up in jail for incest? We thought we knew that person. We were wrong since it turned out that the person had a secret for several years.

Be careful of any prior hidden family secrets

If you know that grandpa use to touch the kids inappropriately then don't leave your kids near him. If you know that uncle whoever use to do things that were not right then do not be around them anymore. Make sure to realize that whatever he did to others that he is capable of doing to your children too. Don't fall into the old trap that he has changed over the years. Do not believe any lies that he would never do anything to the grandchildren. Many people like grandparents get away with incest due to the fact that the parents usually do not come forward about it to the proper authorities.

Check out your in laws.

You need to check out your sisters husband. You may not know everything about your new brother in law. You need to make sure that he wasn't convicted of sex offenses back in his early days or recently. You want to make sure that he isn't an abusive person.

You want to keep in mind that most molesters don't have a record because they have been able to keep the victims quiet all these years. It usually takes several victims to come forward about an child molester in order for them to get convicted. The court system usually causes more trauma now days. The offenders usually have more rights than the victims.
