Sports have been around for thousands of years and with it comes injuries. According to Childrenshospital.org around 30 million students participate in sports. Out of those 30 million students, 3.5 million will suffer from an injury each year with one and four being serious.

Injuries in sports can range from sprains and strains, brain injuries, and head injuries. Childrenshospital.org also states that 60 percent of all injuries occur while a student is practicing.

However, there are ways to protect your child, on and off the field. One of the first rules of playing sports is to remember the rules. Understanding and playing by the rules of the sport will help prevent injuries from occurring. This does not mean your child could not get hurt.

Injuries can occur in many ways, and one of those ways is by failing to be equipped for the game. Football players require pads and helmets. Soccer players require shin guards. Knowing ahead of time what your child is required to where to practice and the game will help limit their chances of getting injured.

An article posted through Associated Content, 7 Tips to Protect Your Child in Sports, it is important that your child does the appropriate warm ups and cools down. Many individuals, young and old, fail to do their stretches correctly. Understanding and performing warm ups correctly can help your child, was well as eating and sleeping right.

It is also important to communicate with your child's coach. Remember this is your child and you understand them better than almost anyone. Do not allow a coach to put your child in a position that is not safe for them. If an injury has occurred, it is natural for a teenager to wish to continue, but some injuries left untreated can become worse. Follow your judgment and your child's judgment and never assume that anyone else knows what is best for your child when it comes to sports and injuries.

Injuries in sports can be prevented, but to do so it is best to remember the rules and requirements of the game. Make sure your child is well prepared for all sports activities, whether it is equipment or warm ups, and always remember that the easiest way to keep your child from getting injured playing by sports is by communicate with him or her and the sports coach.
