Be aware of everything you touch and breathe
Throughout the day, we touch so many different things that we do not even realize it. Now is the time to begin conditioning your mind to recognize when you touch something that could be carrying the swine flu. Anytime you touch something that may be contaminated, make a mental note to sanitize or wash your hands as soon as possible, and do not touch anything else that could cause cross-contamination.
If you notice someone coughing, sniffling, or sneezing, do not get too close, and even when they leave, be cautious about what you touch and breathe in the area they were just in. Also pay attention to what they touch and try to avoid it.
Use alcohol-based hand-sanitizer
This is one of the most obvious and most talked-about steps for preventing the spread of swine flu. However, just having sanitizer is not enough. First, it must be alcohol-based. Of all the sanitizers available, alcohol is still the most effective in killing not just the swine flu virus, but all types of viruses and bacteria.
Second, for the sanitizer to be effective, you must use it very frequently. Any time you touch something that could be carrying the swine flu virus, use hand sanitizer immediately. This not only potentially prevents the spread of swine flu, but the spread of other nasties as well.
Sanitize Common Carriers
Use your alcohol-based hand sanitizer to wipe down doorknobs, handles, and anything else that lots of people touch. This is the closest you can get to sanitizing everyone's hands without actually doing it.
Use Paper Towels
When exiting the bathroom, use a paper towel to turn the sink on and off and to open the door. If there is no trashcan next to the door, don't hesitate to drop the paper towel on the floor. It is not worth getting sick just to make maintenance's job a little easier, and they will soon enough get the hint. If your bathrooms do not have paper towels, push to get some purchased, or if you have to, buy them yourself.
