There are many ways in which you can prevent diabetes, and the trick is to start as soon as you can. They are not major changes that you will need to make to your life, they are small lifestyle changes that everyone has the power and time to incorporate into their day, no matter how busy they are or what they do for a living.
First of all, a healthy balanced diet with regular exercise is vital for a healthy lifestyle but can also be used in the prevention of diabetes. Overweight and obese people are at a much higher risk of getting diabetes than those that are considered to be of a healthy weight. Therefore, the healthier your weight, the less chance you have of getting diabetes. It can be easy to maintain a healthy weight and the first thing that you should aim to do is to incorporate thirty minutes of exercise into your day at least three times per week. This can be as easy as a brisk walk lasting for half an hour, which is what most people would spend going shopping! Try walking to work if you can, or just using the steps instead the elevators and suchlike. Tiny changes can make the difference to the chances of getting diabetes and it is never too late to start.
The same changes apply to a balanced and healthy diet. Try limiting the amount of sugary foods you eat and also those foods that are high in fat. Swapping high calorie foods for their lower calorie counterparts is the easiest way to achieve this, and also trying to cut down on the amount of fast and junk food that you eat.
There are a couple of daily vitamins and minerals that you can take to supplement your diet and try to prevent diabetes. A normal daily multivitamin is good for this, but especially those that contain Vitamins C and E and also Evening Primrose oil. Most daily multivitamins contain these so it is best to start with those.
Preventing diabetes is an easy task that should be undertaken by everyone, especially those who have a family history of the disease. Remember, it is never too late to start!
