How to Prevent Gray Hair

American statesman George Bancroft once uttered, "By common consent gray hairs are a crown of glory; the only object of respect that can never excite envy". Bancroft's inspirational words may no longer stir the emotions of many people since living in a youth-absorbed society which makes people flustered and annoyed whenever they see their hair turning gray. Contrary to the vague impression that gray hair is a symbol of wisdom; according to a health journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), a group of European science pundits have declared that the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the hair results in its natural graying. The hydrogen peroxide serves as an obstruction to the melanin which is a black pigment that is present to the skin layers.

The plodding process of graying hair is seemingly disquieting for most women than men. People undergoing psychological stress and pressure may experience early whitening of their hair. Based on the research conducted in Kanazawa University headed by Ken Inomata, genotoxic stress destroys the cells accountable for causing hair pigments. In line with this, there are several tips to consider in order avert gray hair. First is to steer clear of sticky situations by means of finding worthwhile activities to help you stop thinking about your worries and anxieties. Take a break and give yourself time for relaxation. In the meantime, do not listen to alarming news items and avoid caffeinated drinks. Indulge yourself to healthy habits such as exercising every morning and avoiding alcoholic drinks.

The second thing to consider is to recoil from using too many synthetic hair products. Some hair products have ingredient called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). This particular synthetic detergent has a negative effect on your hair since it damages hair follicles and causes hair loss. Follicle damage wipes out melanin resulting to whitening of hair. Eat calcium rich foods such as kale, broccoli, egg, corn bread, dairy products and salmon with bones.

There are easy home remedies for hair graying. Combination of lemon juice and coconut oil is a marvel solution to cure the graying of hair. Put a handful of this liquid mixture to your hair and massage for about 10 to 15 minutes. Apply this mixture daily.

Another good wonder treatment is to gather amla, otherwise known as Indian gooseberry and shikakai. Immerse these plants in water overnight. Filter the liquid after boiling them. Use this herbal mixture as your shampoo.
