Exercise

Doing exercises like stretching or yoga helps circulate the blood through the body. When there is adequate circulation in the legs, this keeps the legs from swelling. Going to the gym at least three times a week will help with circulations in the legs. If you have a dog, taking your pet on daily walks will help eliminate swelling in the legs. Any form of exercise will prevent swelling in the legs. Poor circulation brings on swelling and other problems.

Strain

Putting strain on your legs can cause swelling in the legs, this can occur when women wear high heels. Try to avoid wearing high heels for a long period of time. If you have to stand on your feet for long periods of time, take time out to sit. Standing for long periods of time due to your job or just doing your daily routines at home, can cause swelling in your legs. Make sure you take breaks through out the day to just sit down and relax. Being able to elevate your legs will also help prevent swelling in your legs.

Weight

Keeping in shape by exercising daily and eating right will keep you from gaining weight. This will also prevent your legs from swelling. Having to carry around extra weight only adds strain to your legs and veins which in return, sets off poor circulation through out the body. Having poor circulation in your legs causes swelling.

Natural Supplements

Taking vitamins can prevent legs from swelling. Magnesium helps the muscles to relax. When the muscles are relaxed in your legs, this prevents your legs from swelling. Vitamin C helps blood circulation and it helps repair and maintain tissue in the legs. Vitamin E and A is essential in preventing blood clots and dissolving blood clots in the legs. Vitamin A and E helps improve circulation and strengthens the capillary walls, preventing the legs from swelling.

Low Salt Diet

Staying on a low salt diet will help prevent the legs from swelling. Salt traps fluid in the body, staying on a low salt diet allows the fluid to release from the tissue. A build up of salt in the tissue in the legs causes fluid to build up, which leads to the legs swelling. A low salt diet also prevents blood clots, blood clots cause the legs to swell. Follow a low-salt, high-fiber diet, this will help with varicose veins. The veins swell, which leads to swelling in the legs.
