Dark circles can occur for a number of reasons. Several cases can be hereditary or inherited. Other cases can be due to a wide variation of reasons.
Lack of sleep and stress can result in dark circles.
Poor dieting and unhealthy habits such as smoking can also result in dark circle formation under the eyes.
Allergies can cause dark circles.
Rubbing the eyes frequently, usually associated with allergies, can also result in dark circles under the eyes.
Dehydration is a major cause of dark circles forming under the eyes. This is because the skin around the eye lies very close to the underlying bone, making a lack of water in the body more apparent in this area compared to other areas when dehydrated.
Aging can be a factor in dark circles under the eyes. The skin tends to become looser and less plump with age, getting thinner causing dark circles.
There are a number of ways to deal with dark circles. Even if you do not determine the direct cause of your dark under eye circles, you will benefit from following these tips about dealing with them.
Drink plenty of water! If you drink plenty of water and hydrate yourself properly each day, not only will the appearance of your dark circles be reduced or eliminated, your entire complexion will improve as well.
Appropriate daily intake values of fluids vary from person to person according to their lifestyle and activities, but eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day is generally a sufficient amount for adults.
I understand that some people don't have a taste for water. This is fine. However, you still need to stay hydrated properly. You can still count your alternative beverages as fluid intake. The difference between drinking water and drinking alternative beverages is that those alternative beverages include sugars and other additives while water does not.
Drinking water is much more healthier for the skin than choosing a soda or some other type of caffeinated beverage.
Get plenty of sleep! The adult person should be getting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. The reason it is important to get the full 7 to 8 hours of sleep is so that the body may enter its deep sleep stages. Deep sleep stages induce important growth hormones to be released which help with tissue repair and rebuilding. This is an important factor to eliminating dark circles and maintaining a more youthful and fresh looking complexion.
Maintain a healthy diet! Proper nutrition is one of the most important areas to work on when trying to rid yourself of dark under eye circles. It is also the first step to creating a healthier lifestyle overall.
Eat plenty of protein rich foods, fish, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Getting your recommended daily value of vitamins each day by eating the proper foods will help you to look and feel much better. Try to cut Salt out of your diet. Salt is very dehydrating and can cause the formation of dark circles. Including a good balance of proteins and vitamins in your diet will ensure firmness and keep the skin looking healthy.
Stop smoking! If you are a smoker, you should definitely try to quit in order to improve the dark circles under your eyes. Smoking damages the skin and destroys certain vitamins within the body. One of the vitamins that smoking affects is vitamin C which is needed in rebuilding skin cells. If you continue to smoke, the rest of your efforts and dedications will be obsolete. Everything you improve, such as your diet, sleeping habits, and hydration, will be for nothing if you continue to smoke. The dark circles under your eyes will most likely remain and several other health risks involved with smoking could occur as well.
Follow the tips above and most likely your condition will improve. If the dark circles under your eyes still prevail after following all of these guidelines, your condition may be caused by hereditary factors or allergies. In this case, you should seek the opinion of a medical professional.
