How to Prevent a Stroke

TommiH
I just recently posted an article about "How to tell if someone is having a stroke" and now I am back to tell you how to avoid a stroke. Have you ever heard the saying "It's better to be safe than sorry"? Well it is true.

It is much easier to prevent something rather than sit back, do nothing, allow it to come, deal with the side affects, and attempt to get back to good health. It is not worth it if you can do what you can to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Prevention one:

Stroke occurs due to lack of oxygen flow to the brain. This generally happens when you do not keep blood flow moving. Keeping blood flow moving will help prevent a future blood clot.

The best way to keep your blood flowing and ateries clean is to exercise. It is best if you exercise at least 4 times a week. You can complete a 30 to 40 minute aerobic exercises each day four times a week. This will keep the circulation moving and you in tip top shape.

Prevention two:

Keep an eye on your blood pressure. People with high blood pressure are more apt to have a stroke. See your doctor and find out what he/she says you should do to keep your blood pressure down. A lot of the time, a calming surounding helps settle tension and keep the stress level to a low.

Prevention three:

If you are a smoker, you need to quit. Smoking is not only bad for your lungs, but it is also bad for your blood vessels. The Nicotine causes the blood vessels to constict and become narrow. Also it can cause arteries to become hard which will give you more of a chance of stroke in the future.

Prevention four:

Young adults and teenagers have a higher risk of a stroke if they drink alcohol and take drugs, so avoid those as much as possible.

Prevention five:

You may laugh at this one, but avoid constipation. This is all serious. Straining to remove your bowel movement is very hard on your heart. Trust me, you do not want to have a stroke and especially in the bathroom. There is no one there to help you.

Prevention six:

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and high-fiber foods. Try your hardest to avoid fatty food, such as fried food, butter, beef shortening, etc. This does not mean to give up all your meats and comfort food, but it does mean that you should watch how much you intake. You can even consider buying baked potato chips instead of the common fried.

Do all you can to prevent a stroke before it happens, keep up a daily exerice routine, and eat healthy and you will soon be on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
