How to Prevent a Very High Percentage of Sex Scandals Between Teachers and Students
It's Time for Teachers Aged 35 and Up to Completely Take Over Grades 6-12!
As adults get older, their propensity to be involved in criminal activity is greatly reduced. This is because with age, most adults get wiser and more discerning. The vast majority of these teacher student sex scandals have involved educators in their 20's and early 30's with students in middle school and high school grades. With that in mind, it's time that a gradual phasing out of teachers who are under 35 years old begins for grades 6 to 12. That is, all potential teacher applicants would need to be at least 35 years of age before they are allowed to accept teaching positions from grade 6 through grade 12, including for both public and private schools; that is, until they reach their 35th birthday, where the option to teach higher grades would be afforded them. Teachers under age 35 who are currently teaching grades 6 through 12 can keep their current jobs if they so desire (as long as they don't get involved in any sex scandals with their students), but would be given incentives to look for other jobs within the educational system, including trading their grade 6 through 12 positions for kindergarten through grade 5 positions whenever possible.
I'm not saying that all teachers in their 20's and early 30's are unscrupulous, but many of their same aged colleagues have created a crisis in the education system of this country. It's gotten to the point where hard times in education call for hard measures. In addition, under-35 teachers and applicants can even choose to get credentialed to teach college, university or other post secondary educational courses. In colleges and universities, the issue of educator student relations is a different matter because by age 18, the age of consent legal issue is basically moot, given that the students are legal adults.
Teachers 35 and older are generally going to have more fortitude to deal with older students, too, just because of the experience they've acquired in life, especially for those teachers who happen to be parents and/or grandparents.
As a side issue, my educational proposal will also help keep the students in grades 6 to 12 more focused on their schoolwork rather than on the looks of younger teachers, which tend to be more distraction-causing when teachers are in their 20's and early 30's (that's just a biological fact of life), especially since teachers in these age ranges make up the vast majority of the perpetrators in these sex scandals. Granted, it's solely the responsibility of the adult educators for these heinous sex scandals, but when good looks and a lack of teacher self-control and maturity are thrown into the mix, the odds for a sex scandal happening goes up for obvious reasons.
No matter what system of checks is in place in this nation's educational system for pre-college aged children, there will be crimes against students because of human nature. But eliminating the vast majority of these sex scandals should be a top priority for the educational system of the United States of America! To reiterate, the 35-something and older crowd is more apt to show self control and restraint when it comes to resisting illegal temptations than their younger colleagues.
Hey, if the minimum age for being President of this country is 35, then such important jobs as teaching such impressionable ages (of which upper pre-teen and teenaged kids are on so many different levels) need to also implement conservative safeguards. After all, Presidents have to deal with "childish" acting Congresses on a fulltime basis, but all teachers have to deal with real children in their chosen profession!

Post a Commentyour idea of only letting teachers 35 or older teach 6th grade and above is irrational and not very well thoughtout at all. Not to mention hugely limiting the available career jobs that young teachers just out of a hugely expensive college education could take, (what would they do) but its a blanket policy for an unfounded truth. This solution is so irrationalis hard to concieve where it comes from, i sure hope that you are not involved in the education field. i wonder how old you are and depending on what that turns out to be...maybe no writers within 7 years above or below your age should be able to write for any journal that trys to influence public education policy. please in the future try to have some knowledge of your subject before you offer your clueless solution. the future education of our youth is too important be dealt irrational solutions to isolated media hyped events. fear is not the solution.
I wonder what the ratio of young teachers is to teachers involved in scandals. I imagine the number is so low that you can't base anything off of it. Gross over generalization like this are caused by the media hyping a few events to the extreme and not focusing on the thousands of teacher who do a great job. Please don't judge the whole group by the actions of a few loonies. So to conclude I'd like to see some numbers with your argument.
I believe that this issue is a problem, and this article does a great service by presenting one possible solution. Unfortunately, this is not a good solution. Young teachers bring a lot of enthusiasm to difficult subjects inspiring their students to go above and beyond. I remember trying harder in a class to impress an attractive teacher. Young teachers may have mroe in common with the younger students, appreciating the same music and art, knowing the same movies. Young teachers can speak with teens without an interpreter. Instead of banning young teachers, lets give them more training, support and observation.
