How to Print from a Laptop or Desktop Without a Printer Cable

John Messina
Many homes have more than one computer these days and sharing them to printer is a big problem. Home networking is essential for anyone who has more than one computer and only one printer.

Many of you probably already have a DSL wireless router or a cable modem with a wireless router. If you have a wireless router you are halfway there. All you will need is a network printer which most printers today already are.

A network printer can have a built in wireless connection or an Ethernet connection that connects to your DSL router or Ethernet hub port.

The following steps will guide you through the basic setup of a network printer:

Carefully unpack printer from box and read unpacking instructions carefully.

Plug printer in and read the quick installation instructions.

Make sure each computer has a wireless or Ethernet connection to your router or hub. Install printer driver and software to each computer.

On each computer go to "add a new printer" and make sure you select "share this printer"

Print test page to ensure you have a network connection to your printer. Make sure that your new printer is your default printer.

Refer to your printers' owner's manual for detailed setup instructions on adding a printer to your computer if you encounter any problems.
