How to Professionally Manicure Your Nails at Home

This is Second Best

JUNEANN REED
Do you envy other women's nails? Do you wonder how you could stop biting or picking at your nails? One of the biggest helpers is to keep them short, neat and well-trimmed. Bling them up and you may think twice about crunching on them. During the colder weather our hands suffer from dryness. Then when the warmer weather arrives - we work and play outside. It doesn't take much to have sad looking nails.

I will help you have professional looking nails with five quick and easy steps. Take just a few moments each week and you will be proud to have your hands above the table.

Simple directions:
1. Trim your nails as you wish. Follow up with an emery board to smooth edges. [Keep an emery board handy in your car. If that crooked nail bothers you, easily smooth it while you're at a stop light or waiting for someone.]

2. Soak hands in a bowl of very warm water and some dish soap for five to ten minutes.

3. Dry hands and rub a good hand lotion into them. Push down cuticles. Wash hands thoroughly to rid them of any oil. [Your polish will not stay properly if hands are oily.]

4. Apply a clear base coat to prevent your nails from staining. Cover edges of nails to help lessen chipping. Next using two or three brush strokes, cover each nail with your choice of color. Stroke polish from bottom to top of nail.

5. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats of nail polish. For better manicure protection cover nails with a clear, shiny top coat. It is very important to completely dry nails before touching things. [Easier said than done, I know.]

Additional hints:
In spring and summer the bright and cheery pinks, corals and reds seem to perk us up even more. We tend to go for darker colors during the fall and winter seasons.

For additional glamor and bling you may coat polished nails with a silver or gold glitter shine. The small packs of flowers and gems are also quite easily applied and are so much fun. If you put a top coat over them, they will likely last as long as your manicure.

Yes, even doing your nails at home takes some time, effort and a little money. Manicuring your nails can easily be done while watching TV or simply listening to music or talking with your children. Step it up and try it and you'll be proud to show off those freshly done nails. If you are afraid of messing it up, why not choose a clear polish and whiten your nail tips. Great look and no worries.

Go to your local box store and check out the new colors and everything that currently available for home manicures. You'll come home ready to start your new look.
