How To Properly Clean Your LCD Display

Proper Steps to Safely Cleaning Your Screen Without Damaging It

More and more people are making the switch over to HDTV and purchasing their first flap panel televisions. The screens on these televisions are way more sensitive as compared to the traditional tube television. Even cleaning your LCD screen with the wrong cloth can leave scratches and other marks on it. Other traditional cleaning method's used on older TV's won't work the same on a LCD television. Here is a guide you can use to help keep your LCD television clean and clear.

First off, never use glass cleaner and paper towels to clean your LCD TV. Using glass cleaner can leave streaks and other unattractive marks on your LCD TV. Power towels are rough and can scratch your screen. LCD screens are very sensitive to touch and that is why you should never put your fingers directly on it to avoid leaving marks and scratches that you'll always have to look at. Also, always remember to unplug your TV before cleaning the screen.

You can go to electronic stores and purchase their cleaning kits for $15 - $25 but you don't have to. It's always a good thing to have cleaning solutions such as iKlear for example but you can also use a solution of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Microfiber clothes work the best but if you have an old cotton t-shirt to clean your screen, which works as well. The solution of alcohol and distilled water works great but some people just prefer the kits. I've honestly had no problem using the alcohol / distilled water mix with a very soft cloth.

Never directly spray the solution onto your LCD screen. Just spray some into your cloth and gently go over your LCD screen. If you do it too rough, you can definitely mark up your TV or even damage the screen if you press to hard. A lot of times I've had to clean my screen, I really haven't had to put that much pressure on it. Just gently keep going over the same area until you get the screen cleared off. Having kids around your LCD TV can really make it tough if they are constantly getting finger prints on it or leaving streak marks on it. Just be gentle in removing any marks from your screen. Never apply too much pressure.

Hopefully this guide helped you in how to properly clean your LCD screen. If you ensure people aren't touching your screen or leaving marks on it, then cleaning it should be a breeze. Just gently go over the screen, never leave any excess cleaner on the screen and always let it fully dry before you plug it back in. I highly recommend at least buying microfiber cloth to clean your screen since they are the best choice. To clean the exterior around the screen, I also use the microfiber cloth and a can of condensed air to blow off the dust on top and behind the TV itself. Always remember to unplug before cleaning.
