How To Properly Clean Your Mouse

Idalia Benavides
If you have a desktop PC and you've noticed that your computer mouse is lagging in efficiency, then it's most probably because you don't clean it out often. Computer mice gather a lot of dust all the time and if you don't clean it up on a weekly or a monthly basis at least it will surely be getting stuck all the time causing you unneeded frustration. In this article I will walk you through the process of cleaning out your mouse and I will also include tips that may help you out with future mice problems.

Complete Steps To A Clean Mouse:
1. Unplug your mouse.
Tip: Make sure to not just pull the cord from the back; carefully unplug it without unplugging anything else around it.

2. Flip it over, rotate the locking ring, and release the rubber ball that it contains inside of it. If it doesn't have a rubber ball, then it's probably not the type of mouse that I'm going to be referring to in this article.

3. Carefully clean the rubber ball with a lint-free cloth or soap and water, then dry it completely. Don't worry about this ball very much, so long as it's clean it should work okay.

4. Grab the mouse, flip it over, look inside for built up crud and scrape it off with a toothpick carefully or with your finger.

5. Insert clean rubber ball into the clean mouse and lock it. When you do this, test it out before, as sometimes you might not lock it properly.

Tip: While you're cleaning your mouse, you may also want to wash your mouse pad with soap and water, dry it up, and place it in a hard surface to also help your mouse to work better.

Tip: If mouse doesn't work, look and make sure that it's connected correctly to your computer. If it's not, borrow a mouse from some other computer and try it out to see if it was just your mouse that did not work.

Tip: If no mouse works on your computer, don't go buy a new mouse port just yet, check to make sure your mouse driver is installed first.

I hope that after reading this article your mouse is clean and fast again. I also hope that you will take the time to redo this process again more often than you normally would, as it's the key to having a healthy mouse.
