When you are going to test drive a used car it is essential that you look around the entire car thoroughly before dropping the key into the ignition! Below is a series of my thoughts and ideas pertaining to optimizing the time spent checking out the used car models that you are interested in.

Functionality Tips you can use!

1) Wear work clothes so you can crawl around inside and underneath your prospective new baby.

2) Bring a flashlight so that you can clearly see underneath the car and inside spaces like the trunk and under the hood.

3) Ask the seller to see any maintenance records they have for the vehicle you are thinking about testing.

4) Check all the fluids, especially the coolant system and the transmission fluid.

5) Check the exhaust system for any holes or potential leaks.

6) Look at brake rotors, and see if there is any pad material left.

7) Check all the door locks windows and any other electronic control item that can malfunction the same week you take ownership of the new/used car.

9) Once you are behind the wheel you are going to be listening for any and all squeaks, ticks and other weird noises that your car should not be making.

Now that you are driving the USED Dream car it is time to take her out for a little bit of fun.

Take the car on a few different types of road surface so you can see how it handles in rain and snow. Once you are behind the wheel you are going to be listening for any and all squeaks ticks and other weird noises that your car should not be making.

10) Next you want to take your used car in to one of the local garages with professional technicians on the job!

11) Once she gets a clean bill of health from the service technicians it is time to go get the funding to the bank.

12) Around my area in Ohio you need to have the vehicle e-checked for emissions at any location.

13) Check and see if the dealers will stock parts for your new used machine?

Good luck in your search for a decent used vehicle using the information I have provided. thanks!

  • Taking a used car on many different types of road surface can help make your decision.
  • Test driving used cars is a little more complex than just taking a car down the road.
  • Borrow an On Board Diagnostics tool and can have all your engine settings on a list
It is actually easier to get a free test drive Used cars are compared to getting a test drive in a new car the used inventory typically never worked.
