How to Protect Your Colored Treated Hair During the Summer

BS
After spending money on your hair to have it colored, you want to make sure that it stays looking great for the most amount of time possible. You want to be sure that you get your money's worth for your color treatment, especially if it's an expensive one. Summer is a great season, but it's one of the roughest seasons on your hair, especially if it's color treated. Those special color shampoos and conditioners are great for protecting your color treated hair, but if you don't your hair any more attention than that, your color could lose its beautiful look quicker than you would like. Luckily, there are some things you can do (or not do) to keep your colored hair looking like you just walked out of the salon for longer.

Keeping your colored hair looking great- tip #1
Coloring your hair may make the appearance look great, but it also causes a lot of damage to your hair. After you have your hair colored, leave it alone for at least one day (preferably two) before you do anything else to do it. Even washing your hair should be put on hold for a day. This gives your hair a little time to repair itself before you start washing it, and styling it.

Keeping your colored hair looking great- tip #2
Most people wash their hair in the shower, and most people take hot showers. Hot water is not good for colored hair, it actually opens up the cuticles and can let out some of the color in your hair. Everyone knows that washing your hair in cold water is not particularly pleasant, so use lukewarm water, if you can, when you want to wash your hair. Using shampoos and conditioners specially made to keep colored hair looking great also helps.

Keeping your colored hair looking great- tip#3
Summer means swimming pool for a lot of people, but chlorine is no good when it comes to colored hair. If you are going swimming, you can help your hair from absorbing a lot of chlorine while you are swimming by getting your hair wet (with regular water) before you jump into the pool.

Keeping your colored hair looking great- tip #4
For your other summer activities that don't include swimming, but do involve going out in the sun, keep your hair protected. If you can find a hat or something else to wear on top of your hair, that will shield your hair from the sun, you will greatly help your colored treated hair. Too much sun can make your color lose its shine.
