Safety, security and independence are some things we all have a reasonable expectation of having. But what happens when those freedoms are threatened and in jeopardy? What do you do and where do you go? The first thing you should do is empower yourself with knowledge. The more you research and investigate the more you are able to make informed decisions.
I'm not talking about terrorist threats here although that is important to be aware and ready for. What I'm talking about is personal safety. For those who are disabled or elderly however that may be a thought that is not far from their minds. They may wonder if they will be able to take care of themselves if there were a problem, and if so how would they do that.
The first thing to do is find and take a self defense training course. This will better prepare you to defend yourself if the need ever arises - which I hope it never does. But having the skills to do so will better prepare you if you ever need to fend off an attacker. There are several in your area so check your local area for places and times.
The second thing you can do is to install safety equipment in your home or the home of your loved ones. Things such as Chair lifts and walk in bathtubs are just a few and can help prevent slips and falls.
One such company is Acorn Chair lift and can be found here http://www.acornstairlifts.com/
As for walk in bathtubs you can go here http://www.americanwalkintubs.com/
The third thing you can do is to wear a safety monitor to ensure a quick response time if you ever fall . Some of them not only send help but contact your family members as well. One such company is medmonitoring at http://www.medmonitoring.com/ This company is offering a risk free 30 day trial of all their products. Another company that also offers monitoring is philips life line systems at http://philips.lifelinesystems.com/content/default.
The fourth thing you can do is to invest in baby cams to monitor events while you are away. They can be placed in almost any area of your home and are undetectable by others. They are an efficient and cost effective way to keep your family safe. For ideas on these you can visit
http://vedosoft.com/nanny-cams.html
or
http://www.babynurseryrooms.com/baby-cams-and-monitors/
The fifth thing you can do is to check out and invest in a security monitoring system such as ADT at
http://www.firsthomealarm.com/default.aspx or Protect America at http://www.protectamerica.com/
With ADT you are protected against carbon, burglary, fire, and
with Protect America you can be sure to find a system that fits your budget.
According to a 2007 FBI Crime statistics report which can be found at http://www.protectamerica.com/ "Homes without a monitored security alarm system are 3 times more likely to be burglarized or robbed than those with a monitored home security system."
So to sum it up first security safety and Independence are things we have a reasonable expectation of having.Second protecting our loved ones from slips and falls can be prevented, Third. protecting and monitoring our home and protecting our families are affordable for any budget. And finally there's no better time then now to arm yourself with the knowledge that our families and homes are safe with any one of these devices.
