You can protect your garden from animal intruders without harming them. To keep animals out, sprinkle half a cup of Epsom salt on plants and the surrounding soil. Repeat after a rainfall. Rabbits and most other creatures dislike the taste of the salt and will choose a dining spot elsewhere. Plus, the salt's minerals will enrich the soil with chlorophyll-boosting magnesium and sulfur for healthier and tastier produce.
Another way to protect plants is by brewing up a spicy hot tea mixture. Collect one whole bulb of garlic (broken into cloves), 3 hot peppers (chopped), and one quart hot water. Smash cloves lightly. Combine all ingredients in a glass jar and let sit in a warm place for a week. Strain mixture. To use, pour half a cup of the tea mix, one pint water and three drops dish-washing liquid in a pump spray bottle. Spray on tender leaves. Repeat after rain.
